Winners of the 2023 Packaging Innovation Design Awards named

The winners of the 2023 Packaging Innovation Design Awards (PIDAs) were announced at the 2023 Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) Australasian Packaging Conference, recognising excellence and innovation in packaging, particularly in relation to sustainability and environmental credentials.

The PIDAs are the exclusive feeder program for Australia and New Zealand for the WorldStar Packaging Awards run by the World Packaging Organisation. All 2023 PIDA winners will be automatically eligible for entry into the 2024 WorldStar Packaging Awards competition.

The winners are:

2023 Food Packaging Design of the Year
GOLD: JBS Swift Lamb Cutlets CRYOVAC Darfesh Mono-PET rollstock (Sealed Air)
SILVER: EarthPouch High Barrier Quad-Seal – (Mikro Coffee Roasters & TCL Hofmann)
BRONZE: Vitor Grapes ‘hippie punnet’ – (NAVI Co Global)

High commendations were also awarded to Australian Organic Food Co. Minestrone Soup mono material retort pouch by Flavour Makers and Toppan Inc. and DualPakECO compostable food trays by Confoil and BASF.

2023 Beverage Packaging Design of the Year
GOLD: Banrock Station Eco Bottle (Accolade Wines)
SILVER: Penley Sustainability Range (Cutler Brands)
BRONZE: Wine Protector (Planet Protector Packaging)

2023 Health, Beauty & Wellness Packaging Design of the Year
GOLD: Koi refillable foaming handwash starter kit and 4-pack refillable handwash tablets (Coles Group)
SILVER: Habitat Shipper Box (Production Packaging Innovations)
BRONZE: BioShield (Caps & Closures)

2023 Domestic & Household Packaging Design of the Year
GOLD: 10:PM Mattress Box (Production Packaging Innovations)
SILVER: EasyPour (Dulux Group – British Paints)
BRONZE: BioShield (Caps & Closures) and The Dirt Co Circular Refill Pouch Packaging (O F Packaging and Close the Loop Group)

2023 Labelling and Decoration Design of the Year
GOLD: Christmas BioCups (OzHarvest and BioPak)
SILVER: Herma InNo Liner Labelling (Result Group and Hanes Australasia)
BRONZE: The Good Smoothie Milk Powder Composite Pack (Nutura Organic and Zipform Packaging)

2023 Outside of the Box Packaging Design of the Year
GOLD: Coola Box (Oji Fibre Solutions NZ)
SILVER: Snell Packaging – Mattress Corner Protector (Oji Fibre Solutions NZ)
BRONZE: Future Ecology – EmGuard (Oji Fibre Solutions NZ)

2023 Marketing Design of the Year
GOLD: Sustain OzHarvest Cups (Bunzl Australia and New Zealand)
SILVER: Dulux Jellybean Promotion Pack (Dulux Australia)
BRONZE: Keen’s Meal Bases (BrandOpus Australia and McCormick Foods Australia)

The sustainable packaging category was split into the subcategories of:

GOLD: Coles Finest Carbon Neutral Steak Vacuum Packaging (Coles Group and Plantic Technologies)
SILVER: Banrock Station Eco Bottle (Accolade Wines)
BRONZE: Dulux 50 per cent rPP Paint and Lid (Pact Group and Dulux Group)

Labelling:
GOLD: Herma InNo Liner Labelling (Result Group and Hanes Australasia)
SILVER: RafCycle (UPM Raflatac)

Mono Material Advancements:
