Australian start-up The Boxed Beverage Company has partnered with Tetra Pak, a global food and beverage packaging company, to launch Waterbox, a sustainably-packaged alkaline water sourced directly from Cottonwood Springs in Victoria.
According to the lifecycle of beverage and food packaging in Australia and New Zealand, packaged in Tetra Pak’s plant-based carton bottle, Waterbox has up to eight times less impact on climate change than traditional PET bottled water across its entire lifecycle.
Where available, consumers can recycle the plant-based carton bottle at kerbside collection points, where they can be transported to saveBOARD recycling facility and turned into sustainable building materials for homes and offices.
Founded by two people from Adelaide, the new product comes as a result of growing consumer demand in Australia for sustainably-packaged and locally-sourced products with a lower environmental impact.
The Boxed Beverage Company director Stefanie Mazzone said, “We are very excited to be launching our first product, Waterbox. We have seen Aussie consumers seek more sustainable, on-the-go alternatives to traditionally-packaged beverages, and Waterbox represents our first step in addressing this demand and empowering consumers to make a difference.
“Working with our partner Tetra Pak, we are also very proud to be able to source, process and package the product right here in Australia, further ensuring we are able to cater to Australians’ focus on health and sustainability.”
Tetra Pak Australia and New Zealand managing director Boris Munster said, “Tetra Pak is always looking for like-minded partners with shared goals and visions when it comes to bringing exciting product innovations into the market, as well as advancing local circular economy.
“We are thrilled to partner with a homegrown, challenger brand like The Boxed Beverage Company in bringing a new product into the Australia’s beverage industry with our innovative and sustainable plant-based Tetra Top packaging. The Waterbox launch marks the start of our great partnership with The Boxed Beverage Company, with an even more exciting line-up of other product innovations to come later this year.”
As part of its community focus, Waterbox has partnered with Variety, one of Australia’s oldest charity organisations with a mission to give all children the same opportunities in life. For every Waterbox sold, a donation will be made to Variety to support a wide range of aid offered to sick and disadvantaged children.
