Peter Barbour, former owner of Adhesive Paper Supplies, has passed away at the age of 78.
Barbour was well known and respected for his influence in the supply chain for the label printing industry, particularly during his time at Spicers in the ‘70s, where, together with Peter Hammond, then managing director of Spicers Paper, he introduced Kanzaki self-adhesive paper and films and made it into a dominant player in the label printing space.
In the ‘80s, Barbour started his own business, Adhesive Paper Supplies, introducing the Raflatac brand to the Australian and New Zealand markets and developing it, through what were then innovative supply chain offerings like next day delivery, to become one of the largest players within its space in the Australian market.
Barbour was also well known for his consecutive terms as president of then LATMA and his drive to make the association a relevant and powerful resource for its members.
Barbour’s son, Anthony Barbour, who is production manager at CCL Label, said, “[My father is] a past icon of the label printing industry. Whilst many today would not know of him, those who were around in the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s surely have.
“He was well liked and greatly respected throughout the entire industry, and up till his passing, people in the industry who knew him would ask me how he was doing. It is a sad time for me, my sisters Sara and Claire, Doreen, and all who knew Peter.”
