China to dominate propylene capacity additions in Asia by 2030 predicts GlobalData

According to leading data and analytics company GlobalData, China is expected to register the highest propylene capacity additions in Asia, contributing about 70% of the region’s capacity additions by 2030.

GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Propylene Capacity and Capital Expenditure Outlook by Region, Countries, Companies, Feedstock, Projects and Forecast to 2030‘, reveals that China will dominate the capacity additions in Asia, adding a capacity of 31.46 mtpa from 45 planned and announced projects. The high demand for propylene as a raw material from various end-user industries has fueled the remarkable growth of the propylene industry in China.

“In China, the main capacity addition will be from a planned project, Shandong Yulong Petrochemical Longkou Propylene Plant 1, with a capacity of 2.30 mtpa. It is expected to commence production of propylene in 2024,” GlobalData oil and gas analyst Nivedita Roy said.

Shandong Yulong Petrochemical Longkou Propylene Plant 2, an announced project, follows next with a capacity addition of 2 mtpa. The plant is expected to commence operations by 2030.

“With a capacity of 1.10 mtpa, Fujian Eversun New Material Putian Propylene plant 2, an announced project, is the third highest contributor in terms of capacity additions in the country. The plant is expected to commence production of propylene by 2026,” Roy added.
