EcoVadis grants Huhtamaki Gold Medal fourth year in a row

Huhtamaki, a global specialist in packaging for food and drink, has received the prestigious Gold Medal from EcoVadis for the fourth consecutive year. This award places the company in the top 5% of more than 130,000 rated companies worldwide.

The score is based on our performance in the four categories of Environment, Labour and Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement.

Compared to last year, its most significant improvements were in its supplier engagement and reporting on its environmental impacts.

In 2023, the company made significant improvements in reducing waste and GHG emissions as well as increasing its focus on its nature issues.

Huhtamaki’s external recognition from EcoVadis underscores its commitment to producing packaging that protects Food, People and the Planet.

“Receiving the Gold Medal from EcoVadis for the fourth year in a row is a significant achievement that reflects the progress we’ve made on our sustainability commitments,” says Salla Ahonen, Huhtamaki EVP of Sustainability and Communications.

“Over the years, we have worked tirelessly to improve our sustainability performance, and it is very rewarding to get this recognition for the dedication of our employees, suppliers and customers.

“However, we understand that there is still much work to be done to achieve our ambitious 2030 sustainability goals. We will continue to focus on maximising the positive and minimising the negative impact on people and the planet. This recognition from EcoVadis is an important milestone, but it is only one step in our ongoing sustainability journey.”

In Australia, Huhtamaki has manufactured foodservice packaging since the 1980s and currently employs approximately 160 employees. Its local products range from paper cold cups to paper double wall hot cups, ice cream cups and plastic lids.
