Spicers reaffirms its commitment to sustainability

The Spicers team from its NSW branch recently attended the Greenfleet tree planting event, further solidifying its commitment to sustainability.

At the event, the team planted and guarded about 1,100 native trees that will grow to remove carbon, restore biodiversity, and provide habitat to the local wildlife.

“Spicers is proud to be partnered with such a great organisation, together with Greenfleet, we are making a difference by restoring our forests and protecting our planet,” the company said.

“Greenfleet, a renowned not-for-profit organisation and Australia’s first carbon offset provider, has been actively restoring critical ecosystems for 25 years. By planting native biodiverse forests in Australia and New Zealand, Greenfleet plays a crucial role in capturing carbon emissions and safeguarding our climate.”

To help spread the sustainability message to its clients and industry, Spicers has also released its Environs Volume 3 pack, which outlined its 2023 Greenfleet impact summary, its sustainable targets and 2024 goals, and details of the sustainable choices it has on offer.

“We promote sustainable business practices across the organisation, ensuring that we conduct ourselves responsibly and ethically, and are continually looking for opportunities to strengthen the sustainability of our supply chain,” Spicers said.

“We make available the latest environmental and technical information on our products to customers, staff and stakeholders through training and education. The ongoing development of sustainable products and services assist our customers and their clients to achieve their sustainability goals, print and production requirements.

“By thinking and acting sustainably, we strive to deliver excellent customer service and position the company and industry for a strong future.”

Spicers’ 2023 Greenfleet impact saw 1962 tonnes of carbon offset, adding to its current lifetime impact of 4042 tonnes of carbon offset since it partnered with Greenfleet in 2022.

“Now, as we navigate towards sustainability as a key priority, we are actively engaged in initiatives aimed at reducing our environmental footprint to a more sustainable size,” it said.

Acknowledging the importance of sustainability and environmental responsibility, Spicers mentioned that it is committed to mitigating the adverse effects of its increased electricity usage and greenhouse gas emissions.

“As Spicers has expanded its operations, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, through business acquisitions and the establishment of additional warehouse sites, there has been a notable increase in electricity usage and greenhouse gas emissions,” Spicers said.

“This surge in activity naturally translates to higher energy consumption and carbon emissions, as more facilities and operations require power to function…

“We recognise the need to transition to a more sustainable business model and are actively working towards reducing our environmental impact.

“Through comprehensive initiatives and measures aimed at improving energy efficiency and optimising resource utilisation, we are dedicated to achieving our sustainability goals while continuing to meet the needs of our customers and stakeholders.”
