The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) will be hosting a virtual tour of Compost Connect on 8 June, visiting industrial composting sites and speaking to chefs using the service, allowing attendees to gain an understanding of how composting fits into the circular economy.
During the tour, BioPak CEO Gary Smith, BioPak founder Richard Fine and Jeffries managing director Lachlan Jeffries will answer questions about Compost Connect and how businesses can get involved.
“Food production and waste account for 26 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions and food waste breaking down in landfill emits methane, a greenhouse gas that is 26 times more harmful than CO2,” AIP said.
“Reducing food waste by composting can be an effective strategy to combat global warming by diverting organic waste from landfill.
“Last year, BioPak launched Compost Connect, a network to connect foodservice businesses with industrial composters. This ensures that not only food scraps in the hospitality sector are composted, but compostable packaging too.”
